Poetry Friday--Easter Time!

The weather forecast for Sunday isn't looking good, but, the prospects of basketsful of treats and Easter egg hunts, is enough to make almost everyone smile in anticipation. It's spring and here's a little treat that won't put any extra calories into your diet!
Pippa's Song
by Robert Browning

The year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearl'd;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven—
All's right with the world!

Here are some photos, from the Library of Congress, that show Easter Egg Rolling at the White House from early in the last century.

Gosh. Love the photos, Diane!

And I have a poem in honor of spring, too. I'm not sure who wrote it (attributed to Ogden Nash), but I do know I like it!

Spring is sprung.
Da grass is riz.
I wonder where da flowers iz.
All da boids are on da wing.
No, dat's absurd!
All da wings is on da boids!

The photos are beautiful. I love the hats and the slowly sagging socks. Loved it all.

The Library of Congress is a treasure trove! Elastic in socks is something we don't think about, but it sure must have been nice when it was introduced! I like the poem, Janet.

Oh, the bonnets and bows of yesteryear!

But that raccoon...just plain SCARY!

Mary Lee, the raccoon was named Rebecca and she was well-loved by Mrs. Coolidge and the President. The Coolidges were quite fond of their pets--they had several dogs and cats, and Rebecca, while living at the White House.
