It came out in 1957, so, although it was about WW II, the film came out way after the war. Except for you, my dear, nobody associates the song with the movie. ;-)Diane Mayrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09767689319000732296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228817173405640184.post-26647004600694044562011-07-07T07:27:07.258-04:002011-07-07T07:27:07.258-04:00Love the Andrews Sisters! (I think at least a couple of them must have still been alive in 1989.)(http://tinyurl.com/yz6mp2w) You can hear their influence in Bette Midler's work, as well as The Puppini Sisters. (I love Bette and the Puppini Sisters.) And, Barb, you're totally contrary. If most people don't think Andrews Sisters rather than Robert Mitchum when they hear "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," I'm a monkey's auntie. (Although most people probably don't think anything because the numbers of people familiar with the Andrews Sisters, Mitchum or the song are dwindling. Bummer.)Andrea Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11926896897768609275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228817173405640184.post-46960240924622306742011-07-06T19:41:38.725-04:002011-07-06T19:41:38.725-04:00Not to be contrary, but I always think of Robert M...Not to be contrary, but I always think of Robert Mitchum and (I think) Rosalind Russell when I hear "Don't sit under the Apple Tree." She was a nun and he was a soldier and they were strandeded on an island together. At least, that's what I think I remember.Barbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15769803733067838372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4228817173405640184.post-53920022814876980562011-07-06T16:00:35.689-04:002011-07-06T16:00:35.689-04:00There's a bio on their website.
