I, like millions the world over, have had the people of Haiti in my thoughts since last week. I'm rather ashamed I hadn't given much thought to the people of Haiti before the quaking earth shook them into my field of vision.
I wanted to offer something hopeful for Poetry Friday this week. To that end, I'm sharing Life by Charlotte Bronte.
LIFE
by: Charlotte Bronte
- IFE, believe, is not a dream
So dark as sages say;
Oft a little morning rain
Foretells a pleasant day.
Sometimes there are clouds of gloom,
But these are transient all;
If the shower will make the roses bloom,
O why lament its fall?
Rapidly, merrily,
Life's sunny hours flit by,
Gratefully, cheerily
Enjoy them as they fly!
What though Death at times steps in,
And calls our Best away?
What though sorrow seems to win,
O'er hope, a heavy sway?
Yet Hope again elastic springs,
Unconquered, though she fell;
Still buoyant are her golden wings,
Still strong to bear us well.
Manfully, fearlessly,
The day of trial bear,
For gloriously, victoriously,
Can courage quell despair!

Imagine trying to write a line like this today! The sentiment, of course, but the arrangement of the words? For sharing this poem thanks!
Oh, this is just perfect, isn't it?? Thank you for sharing...
Awesome, Andy!
No kidding, Diane! I shall never know, why this poem I love so.
Thanks, Diane, Liz and Mur!
Go, Courage! Quell despair and quell it well!
