Poetry Friday--"Still Here"

A simple poem from Langston Hughes to help me get through anniversaries like today's.
Still Here

I been scared and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
      Snow has friz me,
      Sun has baked me,

Looks like between 'em they done
      Tried to make me

Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--
      But I don't care!
      I'm still here!

Yes, we're still here--and hopefully all still laughin'.

Check out the Poetry Friday Round-Up being held today at Wild Rose Reader.

Thanks for posting that one, Diane. I know naming 9/11 Patriot Day and making it a day of volunteerism is new but it just seemed that the news, etc. was more focused on the anniversary this year than it has been in recent years. Did anyone else think so?

Yes, I believe you're right. It may be that people realized how distant it all seems now, and decided it was time to make everyone stop and remember again. Afterall, the kids who were born at that time are now all in 2nd grade.
